Important Results 2018 until spring 2021
2018
Since beginning of the project in spring 2018, several major achievements were realized with the help of the SOUTH BALTIC TRANSPORT LOOPS project. In summer 2018, the frequencies of the ferries between Mukran/Rügen and Roenne/Bornholm were increased. In winter 2018/2019 new year-round operations were introduced on this ferry link.
2019
The access for ferry passengers to Mukran Port has been improved with the introduction of regular bus services between Binz as well as Sassnitz and Mukran Port. Project Partner Klaipeda Shipping Research Centre elaborated a traffic forecast for the partner ports. The Port of Elblag is preparing for a larger traffic volumes in the future (after opening of a new access to Vistula Bay).
2020
The Mid-term Conference of the SOUTH BALTIC TRANSPORT LOOPS project took place in Berlin at the 21st of January 2021.
After intense preparations and test operations in 2019, a new regular transport solution for the transport of containers by train + ship has been introduced between China and several place in Europe via Baltiysk/Kaliningrad Area and Mukran. Since then, the weekly frequency of departures has been increased in several steps and additional hinterland container train services from and to Mukran have been established.
In later summer 2020, a new regular ferry service between Mukran/Rügen and Ystad/Sweden has been introduced.
2021
Since early spring 2021, the Port of Karlshamn is connected to the Baltic Sea Bridge service between China and Europe with the help of a regular shipping link between Karlshamn and Mukran.
